Mount Hayden Sunset

Mount Hayden Sunset

This colorful monument on the eastern North Rim is named for the first Senator of Arizona, Carl Hayden. Long a favorite destination for rock climbers due to its easy (for Grand Canyon) access and short, spectacular and technical climb through the Coconino Sandstone to the flat, multi-acre top of Kiabab Limestone affording a unique view of Nankoweep drainage. This view looks southeast at sundown from below nearby Sieber Point, toward Comanche Point and Grey Mountain above the South Rim and Palisades of the Desert.
