A Busy Spring

This has been a busy spring painting in the studio for Grand Canyon Celebration of Art 2015.

The image this year is titled “Colorado Chasm from Dutton Point”. The view is looking upstream through the “corridor of jewels” toward the San Francisco Peaks dominating the horizon a hundred miles to the southeast. Late afternoon summer light emphasizes the monsoon stormclouds looming on the distant horizon as canyon shadows lengthen. My vision of the poetry of erosion, give or take a thousand years. Dutton Point is the highest vista on Powell Plateau off the North Rim of Grand Canyon, accessed from the North Bass Trailhead at Swamp Point.
